For our first class with Marcos, we were given our brief for this semester about “choosing a location that has a significant meaning for us.” In saying this we will have to “explore its location and travel through its space , looking for: details, colour, textures, people, ideas and meanings.” I found this brief to be quite interesting and exciting. Moreover, for our first class we discussed the word ‘place.’ We learnt that place had lots of definitions and meanings. We did this exercise to expand our thinking of the word place as well as ‘finding our place’ to do this project on.
During the class, the first place that was brought to my mind was Lake Panorma. I decided to do my project focused on this location for this place seems to be significant to me and a place I enjoy going to with friends, family or simple just by myself. A place of serenity. A place where I go to release any stress and talk with friends. (I’ll expand more as I research further.)
THE ANATOMY OF TYPEFACE:
For Tatianas class, we had a discussion about creating our own typeface to represent our place. For our first tutorial and lecture class, we learnt the anatomy of typeface and discussed within groups the similarities and differences between 2 fonts using anatomy of type.
TYPOGRAPHIC SELECTION:
For our first assignment, we were tasked to select 2 typefaces and compare its similarities and differences using anatomy of type as well as select one between the two typefaces to base our own type on.
