CONCRETE POEM:

I found this activity to be quite fun for we were working with a poem but in a visual form. After the lecture we had with Marcos, about concrete poems we had to create our own. I found concrete poems to be quite interesting because of how we use words to make up the image without the words having to really be the main focus. In this case I still tried to keep the words related to the meaning of the image.
To further explain, this image represents the theme and main idea of my place which is about remembering to slow down and to look after yourself. In this fast-paced world, we tend to forget about ourselves, we forget to take care of ourselves, we get carried away with society’s view as well as having lots of problems in life. In the midst of it all, we forget to just slow down and take time off for ourselves. So, basically it I think that this represents mental health and how it’s important or health in general whether it be our physical, emotional or spiritual health-it’s important. Our health always needs to be looked after.
We need to remember that it’s okay to take a time out when things start getting to us. We should find a place or have some one to talk to to help us remain calm. For me, Lake Panorama helps me unload and unwind. It helps me
In the Poem above, you see a tornado which represents the problems in life, the negative emotions in life and how one problem in life kind of builds into another problem which starts to spin and create this tornado. Or how in life, things tend to become too much for us or become chaotic and we become trapped in it (just like how there is a small image of a person in the eye of the tornado.) It’s a good reminder like I said before, to take time to relax and just breathe. When was the last time we slowed down and took off a bit of time just to take a breather, which is why you see a group of friends standing beside a tree and on land which represents my place- Lake Panorama. They are surrounded by the people that they love as well as the place that keeps them calm and helps them worry less. (Which is why the place is made up of what the place means to me and or represents.)
POEM PROCESS:

Through the process of writing a poem, I had to really dig deep and get in touch with my emotions to try and display the meaning it has for me. It took me a while to approach it, for I’m not really a writer, but I managed to come up with a poem that showcased what the place meant, the emotions behind it as well as the ideas behind my place.
For my poem, I decided to explore narrative poems, where it basically tells a story in the form of a poem. It does not have to be long or short. It includes characters, a plot as well as the authors feelings and emotions. It can can be written by any point of view and the idea of a narrative poem is to leave the reader with a story to remember.
(Moreover, I wanted to write a story of how I felt going to my place and how going I felt once I visited the place.)
FINAL POEM:
Lake Panorama
Speeding down the winding roads;
Eager to match the tempo of chaos that is life.
Remembering how long it has been since I last felt peace.
Thinking when will this feeling ever go away.
Feeling of exhaustion;
Feeling of suffocation,
Feeling of loneliness.
Easing down the path,
Eager to escape reality,
She leads me by her waters.
My world stands still at last.
Birds chirping, leaves rustling in the wind,
Ripples coming against the boardwalk;
All in unison to make out the perfect melody,
The same one she sang on the day we first met.
A melody of peace, comfort and joy
She is a familiar face;
She is a memory.
She is my teacher.
She is my friend.
From the lush foliage that surrounds me,
She welcomes me with open arms;
To the fresh breeze and clear blue skies,
She whispers sweet encouragements and reassures me.
She tells me,
“My dear, you must let go;
It’s time you release your worries,
Breathe out your problems,
Breathe in my peace.
Take away doubts that ever so cloud that sweet mind of yours. Remember, when you disconnect from the world,
You will find a true connection from within.”
CONCRETE POEM 2:
This was another concrete poem that we made after the lecture about Dadaism. The differences between the this concrete poem and the other one is that, this one has more pictures, more imagery. In my first one, it consisted more of words that made the image while with this one, the pictures and the words/letters made the poem. With this concrete poem, I tried to resemble the freedom of thoughts, imagination and peace. A poem which talks about breaking out of stress and normal life. Going to a place where you can freely think, imagine, breathe and fid peace.
