Poll Research: (Week 2-3)

Findings of this poll: In order to find my users or at least some of them, I had explored one of the methods from the potential worksheet which was to create a Poll. For the poll, I decided to do a quick one to just have an overview of the potential age demographic of the potential users I would be working with. From the findings of my poll, about 81 people who follow my instagram answered my question about whether they like the film Ratatouille or not. Out of the 81 voters, 72 people (88%) liked the film while 9 people did not (12%).

From this poll, I was able to have an overview of how many people (that follow me) like the film just like me. Through this poll method that I created (on Instagram), I was able to also depict the age demographic of the voters. From finding out who voted, I was able to view who voted yes and who voted no (Figure 2). Through the information I had turned into a tally chart (Figure 1) where I had categorised the voters into 6 age ranges, so that I was able to see what my potential users look like and where they are coming from in terms of age.

Findings/ Reflection: From looking at the tally chart, we can see that the main age range for the fans that like this film is ranged from 16-25 years old which is the age I was also assuming would be interested and or like this film more. The age range that followed was 10-15 years old with 7 fans and 4 fans aged 26-30. What I also found interesting but not as surprising was that there was an outlier we can see in the age range 30-40. One fan aged 30-040 liked it while, there were no votes from 41+ years of age. But then again there are some factors to consider for this poll method which I will explain further down below.

Moreover, I also did a tally of the voters to see if the film was more liked by women or men and or disliked more by men or women. Through this, I was able to see that women liked this film more but also disliked it more. But in saying this, there are also some factors to this because I have more girl followers than I do guys. Also, not all my followers or at least more people saw it. (More factors shown down below.)

Factors to consider about this poll/ Is it Trustworthy?:

Although, I found this method of research to be interesting and helpful in terms of finding my age demographic of fans for Ratatouille, there are still a lot of factors to consider and why this might not be a strong and or stable proof. But in terms of finding my audience, I think this is a good start.

• Instagram poll- Since my account is private, I would not have been able to get as much voters as I would like. I think if I were to have my account public, there would have been a bigger chance to somewhat get a bigger and better picture of the age demographic.
• My followers- My followers are a bit biased as I don’t have anyone 41+ years old following me and or people aged 30+ which probably doesn’t give this age range a chance therefore not making this method super reliable and or fair.
• 24 hour highlight poll- This poll was only limited to being on my story for 24 hours, meaning not all my followers would have seen it.
• Viewed but did not vote: As shown in figure 3, there were more people who viewed my story yet some did not vote. (156 saw it but only 81 people voted yes or no for Ratatouille.) Just like in a regular voting situation, the numbers could have looked a lot different if more people voted and or saw this poll.

(Extra) The Incredibles:

Here was the same method I did but I had also tried out for the film ‘The Incredibles’ which was one of my other choices for this paper. I tried it to just see what the age demographic would be as both films are both from the Pixar franchise. (It was interesting to look at though; it has a similar age demographic to Ratatouille.) Maybe this also proves and kind of showcases Pixar’s age fan base is youth to young adults with a few 10-15 years old, as well as some adult fans.

Reflection: Through this quick and easy poll, I was able to see who and where my potential users for this film would be and seeing as my users would be more youth and young adult dominated. Moving forward, I want to try another method with this information that I have and perhaps survey a few of these voters just to see why they like it and what they would like to see more of from Ratatouille.
