Storyboard Ideas/ Research: (Week 4-5)

After having looked for the background music, I started to a storyboard of how the video would look like. For the video, I decided not to do a voiceover anymore and make it more like a montage promotional video and let the visuals speak for themselves alongside some help with captions/ typography.

Moreover, since I was not doing a voiceover anymore, I started to come up with what to write in the video as well as the title. I started to think about my own experience with AUT South and what the ethos of this place is. From thinking about the question, “Who is AUT South?, What is AUT South like?, What is the meaning of this place.” I came up with the idea to title it simply by calling it , “The place to be.”

With the words, I decided to base it around what this place is, to keep it short, engaging straight to the point but also showcasing and summarising AUT South in a few words.

From having thought of the words and what this video is going to say, I started to piece together the clips and lay them out in a way where it feels like a montage but as well as transitioning them to the beat of the background music. In addition, I also looked for clips that showcased the words that I would describe this place as to really communicate the ethos and feel of this campus.

With my other idea, I had an idea of adding something extra to give it more of a cinematic look by adding black bars/ borders at the top and the bottom. I just was curious as to how it would look and if it would add a little something or it’s just pointless?

But also, I still have to work on the end of the video, how I may want to wrap it up as well as how am I going to show the credits.

Through the set up of this video, I was able to incorporate some skills from own clips; I was able to to incorporate different camera angles such as low angles, high angles, birds eye view. I was also able include camera movement such as panning and tilts. Moreover, I was able to include some transitional affects such as dissolve and fade ins and outs. Lastly, I was able to include some skills I learnt from our lecture on colour grading. I first colour corrected then I added some colour grading to give a warm, natural and inviting feeling.
