Reflection and learning Outcomes:
With the final video, I think that it came out quite nicely and it showcased the ethos of this place. For this video, I really wanted to showcase the warmth and uplifting sense of community that this campus has. Through the new skills that I have gained, I was able to combine camera shots, angles, movements, sound and editing skills such as colour grading and typography to convey the message of AUT South.
Some of the challenges that I had faced was the use of footage. Due to the lockdown, it was quite difficult to get a hold of certain shots but I managed to share some shots with the others in class which I found helpful. Moreover, I was limited in terms of graphics and guidelines. The only graphic I was allowed to use was the AUT Logo as the rest of the graphics that I had wanted to use were in-house use only.
Another thing that I found challenging which was getting the videos to look consistent as they were all taken with different devices and different people. I found colour grading quite challenging mainly because of the lighting. In some shots, it was hard to correct the white within the footage and felt like it could have been taken better in terms of lighting.
In terms of how I could have improved on this and or have done this better, is possibly the quality of the video. Moreover, I also think that colour grading could have been better. But considering that this is the first video I’ve made, I think it still turned out quite well.
Going into my own project, this process has taught me some skills and has helped me to think better of how I may want to do my video. Moreover, a thing to keep in mind when shooting is the lighting. If I get good lighting then it would be easier for me to colour grade and tweak in Premiere Pro later on. Also, now that I know the basics, I can even start to think of some more advanced ways of doing transitions instead of just doing dissolve. But then again, it all depends on the video.
