More illustrations/Direction: (Week 10)

Illustration Process:

Hand in hand:

For the publication, I had noticed that I have been enjoying my explorations in regards to illustrations, so I decided to give this more of a push and try to communicate the concepts of my place and my poem through illustrations.

For this piece, I had taken inspiration from a line in the my poem where it says “My dear, you must let go, It’s time to release your worries…” With this illustration I was trying to communicate the way that my place is much like a helping hand. I had personified my place and tried to show how my place cares for me and my mental health. (The hand wrapped with leaves represents Lake Panorama while the other hand is me.) Much like how a friend would care for me. Also, I realised that this also relates to one of the lines in the poem where it says that, “She is my teacher. She is my friend.”

Worries and stress:

With this illustration , I had taken this idea from an image I had seen on google but had changed it to fit my concept and theme.

This one took the longest because it was hard to do a continuous drawing without making it too messy or making sure it comes out as the shape I had wanted it to be.

But with this illustration, I took inspiration from my anxiety girl illustration and had just included the words worries and stress on it.

Moreover, this illustration was drawn to represent the physical curvy roads leading to my place which represents the physical aspect of my place. Then the shape itself resembles the brain/mind which represents the abstract part about my place which is about mental health and anxiety. I drew this also because I needed an illustration to match the first line of my poem about ‘winding roads’, but I I did not just want to draw a road so I challenged myself to think of how I could make this a bit more abstract yet still understandable for the reader. (which is how I ended up drawing this idea.)

Running…

Here was another one line illustration which I plan on connecting with the one line brain to represent the physical road going to Lake Panorama and the abstract meaning of me running there to reduce stress and check on my mental health.

In the first line of my poem it says “Speeding down the winding roads…” I did not want to draw a car as I did not think that it would fit with the feel of my other illustrations (which is quite natural,) so I decided to draw myself running instead.

Worries and stress pt.2:

Here was the combined illustrations together. I think that it came out quite nice. Probably just needs tome refining in terms of making the images connect but overall turned out how i wanted it too.

Also, I tried doing the blur image affect by having the same image moved slightly higher, lower and or more to the left but it did not work with this one because the words, ‘stress’ and ‘worries’ became unreadable, so I decided to just keep it as one line which looked better.

Lastly, I had tried exploring my original line art trials but this time, I had removed the photographs which looked better.

(Side note: Still polishing, playing around and fixing this illustration.)

Direction/Reflection:

After having had explored more illustrations, I had decided to keep the publication illustration based instead of including my photographs, for when it came to trying out my layout I struggled as they did not really fit well together. Also I think that since my main focus is my poem, I felt that my illustrations were stronger then my images in terms of showing my concept since it is a little more abstract then literal. Although, I am considering possibly using or playing with my photographs for the typeface poster. Overall, I feel confident with this decision as my illustrations feel really connected to the poem and I am quite happy with them. (The illustrations really challenged me which I liked.) (More explained in my other post- Link:)
