For my individual video, I started to write down possible ideas of how my video could go through the method of a mind map. Through this concept video-mind map, the film styles that I had mainly looked at was a film poem (a poetic approach) or a documentary.
With the poetic approach/ film poem, I wanted to bring back and incorporate the poem I had created last semester. This time, I want to build on my poem, not only in the length but in the emotion as I try to get deeper and really try to bring in emotion to this video, so that the viewers are able to understand this place through my experience and my story.
Another film approach I was thinking of doing was a documentary about the place itself. Through this approach, I wanted to not only incorporate the idea of mental health and my experience but even the hidden community within this place as I found the rock community quite interesting and felt like this is what makes this place special not only to me but to other people who have made this place mean something to them. I was also thinking of maybe even interviewing the head of this group and or some members of the group whether they be children, youth, adults or senior citizens. I think that this would be a cool and lovely story to bring into if I were to do a documentary approach.
Overall, I think at the moment, I’m still leaning towards a film poem as I feel like I want to focus and build upon the work I did in regards to my personal experience and what this place means to me in regards to the concept of mental health as well. Moreover, after giving it some thought, and considering our circumstances regarding Covid, I think it might be difficult to include others into my film as I don’t want to make too much physical movement within our area.
