Storyboards & references: (Week 4)

Storyboards:

With the story board, I did a quick rough sketch as I’m still thinking about which approach I might want to take. One idea on the first image (on the right story board), I experimented with the idea of digital animation where it was long flowing which is inspired and is similar to the idea of this video linked above. I liked the idea of having a continuous line through the video but I’m just wondering how it might look if I did my own similar style of illustrations to it. I also liked the look of simplicity it had with being just black and white as it has this idea of simplicity, pureness and cleanliness. Also with the use of sound, it feels very calming and fit for the purpose of this video.

With the second video idea, I had an idea of using stop motion. I wanted to either just do this at home with my crafts and possibly even include the typeface I made about this place. But another idea I had for stop motion was mixing medias; Where I use the the idea of printing out my poem either using a simple font that still relates to this place or my own typeface and bring it to my place and create a stop motion (hyperlapse). With this idea, it’s as if the poem is coming to life and is actually apart of the place through printed text. Also, by doing this I think that the visuals of the place could help build and communicate this story/ poem better. I think this could be an interesting video idea too.

Experiment:

Looking back into my poem, one of the main words that I had tried to play with was the word breathe. Since one of the concepts that arise from my place and or is being considered is the idea of mental health and how being surrounded by nature can help reduce your anxiety and stress levels. WIth this gif moving image, I tried to resemble the movement of lungs as if the word was inhaling and exhaling. I think this would be cool with the sound of someone breathing in and out as well. If I were to do it differently and if I were to do this again, I would have made it inhale from the other side. Instead of it inhaling from the right maybe I could have done it from the left as you read from left to right.

References:

After having looked a few different approaches, I think the styles of film that I am considering is stop motion poem video or a digital and kinetic poem video. Like I mentioned above, I’m thinking of trialing and sketching out these video ideas further to see which is more to my liking and which is more doable for me.

Links to Videos:

With this stop motion, I liked the idea of separating the letters and moving them as well as tearing and ripping the pages for effect. I wonder what I could do to the paper as well as the movement of the letters so that it communicates the message of my poem and it’s context . I guess I’ll just have to experiment.

Here were some other stop motion videos as well as kinetic videos that I thought were really cool and feels inspiring to me in terms of creating my film.

This one was interesting, as this one followed the voice and the words of the narrator which is usually done for lyric videos. In terms of sound, this is another possible video idea worth looking into.

Overall from watching lots of videos of stop motion, I think there are just a lot of possibilities, I think it’s now just about trying to experiment with some possible ideas, test out the ideas of using the text at my place, and narrowing down the ideas. Also, I may need to extend my poem first.
